Alston Macgill

Growing up in Savannah, Alston began dancing at age three and received instruction at The Studio with Veronica Moretti Niebuhr. Beginning at age eight, she attended pre-professional ballet summer programs at The Rock School, Chautauqua, Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the School of American Ballet. In addition to attending summer intensives, Alston also competed for several years in the Youth America Grand Prix. There she won the Youth Grand Prix Award at the regional level, and was awarded Top 12 at age 11 in the New York City Finals.

In 2010, Alston moved to Philadelphia to train at The Rock School on a full merit scholarship. From there, she was invited to attend the School of American Ballet year round in New York City. She trained at the School of American Ballet for four years with faculty members from the New York City Ballet, including Suki Schorer, Susan Pilarre, Darci Kistler, Kay Mazzo, and Peter Martins.

In 2015 at age 17, Alston was asked to join the New York City Ballet under the direction of Peter Martins. As an apprentice with the company, she danced several principal roles and was able to work with choreographers Justin Peck and Nicolas Blanc. In 2016 at age 18, Alston became a member of the company’s corps de ballet.
